Ministry: Russian farmers thresh 57.9 mln tns of grain as of Friday

MOSCOW, Aug 5 (PRIME) -- Russian farmers threshed 57.943 million tonnes of grain as of Friday against 44.969 million tonnes as of the same date of 2015, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement.

The crop yield increased 14.9% on the year and fell 5.7% compared with the yield as of July 29 to 36.3 hundredweights per hectare.

Grain was threshed on 15.972 million hectares, which accounted for 33.8% of the sown area.

Farmers harvested 43.148 million tonnes of wheat from 10.983 million hectares and 7.857 million tonnes of barley from 2.519 million hectares.

The agriculture ministry expects that Russian grain harvest will rise to 106–110 million tonnes in 2016 against 104.8 million tonnes in 2015.
